These illustrations began with the interior designer’s vision to paint whimsical black and white sea creatures on the walls of the restaurant’s interiors. A more traditional approach using pen and ink was the best way to go to capture the vintage style.

Experimenting with different styles of shading, I fell in love with the scribbling approach because of how it captured the complex and wrinkled texture of octopus skin. To be even more playful a Chesapeake rockfish walking his pet lobster was created. Once each of the characters was illustrated they became perfect pieces to brand the Federal Hill restaurant.
